One Man And His Scales

If you’re one of those people who decides to use something other than your microwave whilst in the kitchen, and we seem to be a dying breed, you’ll know the importance of accurately weighing out ingredients. Whilst this might sound like the start of a monotone infomercial about the latest and greatest kitchen scales... it’s actually an example of just how worringly enthused I can become about kitchen gadgets. This isn’t a review, so I wont give you a link, but Google “Duronic KS1009” – just do it. It also occurs to me you might think I would work for Duronics, but that’s also not true. They wont even return my letters – yep, letters! Not obsessive fan emails – obsessive kitchen gadget fan snail mail letters!

Jokes about me being the One Hour Photo man of the culinary utensil world aside, having a slim kitchen scale that can accurately measure and re-measure multiple ingredients is a huge time and space saver. And just look at this model – class personifi... scalonified (where are you Websters? Don’t make me snail mail you too!). And it takes up to 5kg of ingredients – 5kg! The whole world disapproves, but forget them – the world of slimline kitchen scales want you to pursue morbid obeisity – they’re not standing in your way, they’re helping you, 5kgs of food at a time.

Probably not the most helpful overview, but a good indication of how much I like my new kitchen scales. Have a look, it’s a good way to spend $30 and get some stress out of your kitchen (especially if you’re a small apartment owner).

Subtle Stylish Spying (And Alliteration)

I can remember a time about 10 years ago, when you’d pay $80 for a 128MB MP3 player and be amazed at how many songs you could get on it (up to 15 – woah!) and I first found out that some genius somewhere wired a microphone into a bic pen. Yep – it looked like a standard black biro when it was sticking out of your top pocket, but it was actually wired into a tape recorder in your pocket.

How times and technology change! But one thing I’ve not seen until the year 2012 is a video camera spy watch that actually looks like a watch... or rather, that doesn’t look like a watch so gigantic that anyone who sees it would know something was up. The watch in question is the Waterproof HD Video Camera Spy Watch (quite a mouthful) which, amazingly enough, is waterproof, records video and outputs in HD (it’s also a spy watch)! The watch’s descriptive title aside, the aesthetics are actually pretty decent, and there’s nothing that makes it obvious that a pinhole camera is being hidden somewhere in the mechanism.

I suppose the bigger question is what you’d use something like this for and, to be honest, I couldn’t justify getting one myself. Whilst some people might have visions of MI5 operatives sporting one of these, it’s more likely to be found around the wrists of super geeks or super perverts (or some kind of geek-pervert hybrid). So for all you super... whatevers out there, 2012 is your year – just make sure you don’t get caught!

Samsung Sells 20,000,000th Galaxy S II

Congratulations to Samsung who’ve just sold their 20 millionth Samsung Galaxy SII. I considered buying one of these a few months ago, but instead decided to stick with my HTC Desire (or rather buy another one as the 18 month kill switch time period seemed to kick in). And with the ability to upgrade the Android OS manually, I couldn’t justify shelling out an extra $350 in order to get a slightly better performing phone.

Regardless I think this is a great milestone for we Android folks, if for nothing more than it’s showing that the whole iPhone mania is finally being exposed a little. If you want to impress your friends or look like some guy or girl in an Apple TV ad, then by all means go drop $600 on an iPhone. But if you’re actually wanting to use the damn thing, for something beyond getting screwed by iTunes, why would you buy an overall inferior phone... for more money!? I guess this goes along the same concept of paying 500% more for a plain white t-shirt, simply because it’s got a big name on the (inside) label... and said people are what are driving the good old, good for everyone consumerist revolution that is treating global economies oh so well.

Scream Communism! Nope, just talking through the bullshit... and anyway I started by congratulating a multi-national so that one doesn’t really pan out. I guess this is just a rant about how we can be so pissed off with our system and government, but we’re just too damn lazy to do anything about it beyond disillusioned tweeting and changing Facebook statuses. The Arab Spring... oh well they were facing tyranny, totally different thing right? Wait... wasn’t this a post about Samsung... I’m lost...
